Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) is
defined as the systematic maintenance, enhancement and continuous
improvement of the knowledge and skills needed to work as
a professionally qualified management accountant. There
are two strands to CPD:
-
update
CPD, which ensures professional
and technical competence within your field of work.
-
developmental
CPD, which provides new
knowledge, broadens skills and opens up new career opportunities.
At
any time, one or both strands could be undertaken.
CIMA
has produced professional development guidelines to help
you plan your development. This should be done in conjunction
with your employer, considering the needs of the market
place and your preference amongst the multiple skills that
make up management accountancy.
Recording
your CPD
You
will be required to log your new knowledge and skills so
that you can:
-
write
them in your CV and demonstrate your value to a prospective
employer
-
include
them in your appraisal and so inform your present employer
of the value you have
maintained and created in the organisation
-
insert
them into tender documents to enhance your worth to
prospective customers
CIMA
can monitor CPDs for Members to maintain their registration.
