Membership profile IMIS regularly surveys its membership in order to analyse trends within the Institute and the Information Systems Industry. The following data gives a snapshot of the influential body of professionals we represent. 1 19% of the membership is female. IMIS is working closely with industry and government bodies to change the sector’s image and employment practices, in order to actively recruit more women to careers in Information Systems. 2 The age profile shows a healthy balance between young people entering the industry and experienced managers of Information Systems. 3 Underlying its unique position as the bridge between technology and its application/management in society, IMIS represents a healthy balance between technical and non-technical user/managers of Information Systems. 4 Members are working throughout the public and private sectors in technical, managerial, advisory and teaching positions. 5 IMIS members have combined responsibility for many millions of annual IT spend, representing a significant economic force in our society. Membership categoriesThese reflect an individual's level of expertise and attainment. The membership structure of the Institute comprises four Professional grades, each of which carries formal designatory letters. In addition, there are two Affiliate grades, covering students working towards IMIS qualifications and frequent IS users who want to build towards Professional grades through working experience. Professional and technical ability is graded according to the standards set out in the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA). Professional gradesFellow (FIMIS) Members of the profession who have achieved distinction and/or a senior position over an IS career of not less than 8 years' experience. SFIA levels 6 and 7. Full Member (MIMIS) Members of the profession who have achieved a senior position in their IS career, or who hold an appropriate professional qualification. SFIA level 5. Associate Member (AIMIS) Members of the profession who have achieved a high standard of technical and professional ability in their IS career, or who hold an appropriate professional qualification. SFIA level 4. Licentiate Member (LIMIS) Members of the profession who are established in their IS career, or who hold an appropriate professional qualification. SFIA level 3. Affiliate GradesPractitioner Member Open to those who are spending a substantial proportion of their working day involved in some aspect of IS, or who have recently joined the profession and are building their IS experience. SFIA levels 1 and 2. Student Member Open to those studying for an IMIS qualification. Corporate member Organisations with an active interest in the management of IS may stay up-to-date with developments in the industry by taking out Corporate Membership in IMIS. Each Corporate Member is entitled to nominate up to five individuals to represent its interest in Institute activities. Corporate representatives may receive all IMIS information including the Journal, be entitled to attend workshops and seminars, and participate in Special Interest Groups. However, Corporate representatives will not be entitled to use IMIS designatory letters nor be eligible for full membership benefits unless they have qualified individually for one of the professional grades. |
