Systems Development
Dr. Salgado
Dr. Salgado is a Project Supervisor at The University of Portsmouth. His
teaching assignments have spanned over seven universities in Europe and
the United States. He has a distinguished career in both higher education
and industry.
Dr. Salgado also served as Director at The Institute of Technology and
Communications, Consultant and Engineer for Cable & Wireless, where he
developed technology strategies for some of the world's leading companies,
working on international projects in London, USA, Europe and Japan. He has
worked with a wide range of clients to enhance organizational performance.
He is devoted to enhancing and expanding students' understanding of
business and technology issues. He received several Scholarships from the
Ministry of Culture and Education and the Regional Government.
Dr.Salgado enjoys an international reputation as a specialist consultant
and has helped world-class industry leading organizations, including Cable
& Wireless, S&S� and many others improve their business functions.

IT 355: Object-Oriented Programming and Design
Ms. Preethi Kesavan
Ms Preethi Kesavan has been a Lecturer from December 1994 till present.
Preethi obtained her Msc Software Engineering - Andrews University (USA -
Michigan) and a B.Engg Computer Science Engineering - Madurai kamaraj
University India.
Formerly the Academic Course Leader from1999 - 2000, she was also the Team
Manager from1997 - 2000. She was also the Centre Manager from May 2000 to
April 2001 at Informatics Computer School as well at Tampines Informatics
Computer School. She was the Graduate Studies Team Manager from May 2001
up to now at Informatics Computer School while serving as E-Learning
Course Leader at PurpleTrain.com.
Her research and consultancy Interests include submitting a paper on
Object oriented programming which included a survey of other
object-oriented languages and programming environments, a research paper
on an advanced study of applied software product development issues,
software methodologies, software project planning models, software
economics and statistical process evaluation.
She has also compiled a survey of the different paradigms associated with
formal methods and submitted a report. In addition, research was done on
computer graphics examining the raster and vector images, 2D and 3D
images, polygons, transformations, segments, windowing, clipping, hidden
line removal, shading.
The certification achieved by Preethi includes being a Certified

Palaniappan Karuppan Chettiar
Mr Pala obtained his BSc Computer Science in July 1985 - April 1988 from
St. Josephs College, Bharathidasan University in Trichy, South India.
Following which, he received MSc in Computer Science (July 1989 - April
1991) from PSG College of Arts & Science, Bharathiar University in
Coimbatore, South India. Lastly, he obtained a M(Phil) Computer Science in
(Dec 1995 - Dec 1997) from PSG College of Technology, Bharathiar
University, Coimbatore, South India. All degrees conferred on him were 1st
class honours degrees.

Systems Assistant, then in July 1991, he was a Lecturer in Computer
Science, Project Leader in July 1994 - Dec 1997, IT Course Coordinator /
Lecturer in July 1998 - May 1999, UOL Course Leader / Lecturer from June
1999 - to present.

Ravindran, Thara (Ms.)
She obtained a Post Graduate Diploma In Systems Analysis in 1994 from
Institute Of Systems Science, National University of Singapore. In 1988,
Miss Ravindran received her MBA (Marketing - First Class) from Cochin
University of Science and Technology, India after getting her first B.Sc.
Degree (Physics - First Class) in 1985 from Calicut University, Kerala,
India.
Prior to lecturing, Thara was an Analyst Programmer in Caltex, Singapore
in January 1994 - April 1994. From October 1994- December 1997, she was a
Senior Lecturer, (Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies, Informatics
Computer School, Dhoby Ghaut).
Serving as the Unit Leader - Systems Analysis - Advanced Diploma in
Computer Studies, she was involved in the development and administration
of a web-based version of the B.Sc. (Hons) in Computing offered by the
University of Portsmouth, U.K. In addition, she developed online materials
for the cyber version of the B.Sc in Computing for two modules namely
Information Management (IT 353) and eCommerce (IT357). As part of her
tenure, she was involoved in the development of an undergraduate course in
E-Commerce including the business and technical perspectives. The module
was the first of its kind at the University of Portsmouth which was
validated by the University in January 2000.
From December 1997 till presently, her current position is Manager -
Academic Team, Graduate Studies Department, Informatics Computer School at
Funan - the IT Mall as well as the Course Leader - B. Sc. (Hons) in
Computing, University of Portsmouth.
Some of her research and consultancy interests include eCommerce site
development to WelchAllyn Singapore. The project covered an initial
feasibility study and preparation of a comprehensive business case for the
company. Other achievements included web site analysis for bulk trading,
Singapore. The project involved evaluating an existing eCommerce site and
providing recommendation on improvements that can be done to further
enhance its appeal/ use to business partners. Other interests include
eCommerce business models, Business Process Reengineering, Workflow
Management, Primary Market Research.

Management
Zahir Hussain has over eight years' of
experience in the field of Computing Science. After completion of his
Masters Degree in Computer Science, he was formerly working as an IT
Consultant in India. He joined Informatics in 1997, since then he has held
different positions as a senior lecturer, academic manager and programme
leader for electronic commerce programmes. Currently, he is holding the
position as a principal lecturer. He has conducted classes for advanced
diploma modules by Oxford University. Presently, he is lecturing some
bachelor programmes from the University of Portsmouth, University of
Central England, University of London, University of Wales and Curtin
University of Technology. His main interest of subjects are Information
Management, E-commerce, Database, Software engineering and project
consultation.

Mr Loh Hai Kian
Principal Lecturer

Informatics Computer School
Mr Loh holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computing and Information
System and a Master of Science in Software Engineering.
Mr Loh has worked in Informatics Computer School for more than ten years,
teaching modules such as C, C++, Java, Interactive Multimedia, Software
Engineering, System Analysis and Design, Program Design, Project
Supervision, Discrete Mathematics, Quantitative Methods, Javascript and
HTML.
Prior to his teaching profession, Mr Loh has worked in the Port of
Singapore Authority as an Analyst Programmer.
He has vast experience in database maintenance operations and database
system developments.

Stanley Tan
Mr. Stanley Tan obtained his M.Sc. in Information Technology Systems from
Strathclyde University, United Kingdom. He has been working with
Informatics, Graduate Studies Department, since 2000. His academic
interests include Data Communication & Networking, E-Commerce, Databases,
Software Engineering and Multimedia Systems. He is a member of Singapore
Computer Society and Australian Computer Society, Australia. In his
current capacity, he is fully responsible to develop final year Degree
(Hons) curriculum, assessment papers, study guides, syllabus and course
materials for various modules in the areas of Computer Studies for various
Universities' Final year Degree programmes, include University of
Portsmouth, University of Wales, RMIT University, and University of
Central England at the Informatics Computer School.
