How to join IMIS

Anyone wishing to apply for Professional membership should complete the Membership Application Form (PDF)

You will be asked for details of skills, past experience, and qualifications along with a proposer and suitable referee. Application for acceptance into the Professional membership grades can be based on one of the following qualification and experience streams:

Professional – acceptance is based primarily on an evaluation of current skills/employment, and conditional upon receipt of a suitable professional reference. Professional and technical skills are assessed according to the definitions laid down in the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA).

Traditional – based on progression through the IMIS framework of formal written examinations.

Vocational – by directly linking attainment of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) levels 1 to 5 to the Professional grades as follows:

  • NVQ Level 1/2 in IT Practitioner Member
  • NVQ Level 3 in IT Licentiate Member (LIMIS)
  • NVQ Level 4 in IT Associate Member (AIMIS)
  • NVQ Level 5 in IT Full Member (MIMIS)
