CIPS qualifications in Procurement & Supply

CIPS last updated their qualifications in 2013. By working closely with employers, different levels of qualifications have been developed which consist of units that respond to global business requirements.

CIPS qualifications are:

  • Available to candidates world wide – students from any country can opt to study by supported distance learning for a CIPS qualification through MCG.

  • Robust - Supported with the benefits of CIPS Student Membership.

How to Start

Where you begin your studies for CIPS qualifications depends on your relevant qualifications and experience.  Programmes leading to the Certificate and Advanced certificate in procurement and supply operations are for those currently in or hoping to join operational roles.  The three Diploma qualifications are aimed at those managing the procurement and supply function.  Students are advised to progress through the qualifications in sequence to provide the underpinning knowledge needed to move up the qualifications ladder.

What if you already have relevant qualifications or experience?

You may be entitled to some unit exemptions if you already have a relevant degree or qualification. Exemptions are designed to make sure that you do not repeat learning that has already been undertaken recently and recognised. The CIPS policy on exemptions together with their application process and the fee they charge can be found ---here--- [External window]

What if you have no relevant qualifications but lots of experience?

If you do not have relevant procurement and supply management qualifications but have for example, been a buyer for around two years or more, with a minimum of at least two A-levels (or international equivalent) or a CIPS Advanced Certificate qualification;  you are eligible to start studying from the Diploma in procurement and supply.  This is the highest level entry point into the qualifications ladder.

No previous qualifications?

You can start to study for a CIPS qualification even if you have no previous professional qualifications or relevant work experience as the Certificate and Advanced certificate are available to all.
